Effective September 2, 2026. Applies to Windows, iPhone and Android. Version 1.0.
MediCall is a softphone for business calling over the NetLayers voice network, available for Windows, iPhone and Android. This policy explains what we collect, what never leaves your device, and the choices you have.
- Recordings stay local. Call recordings are written to your device only. We never upload them and have no access to them.
- Microphone on call only. The microphone is active while a call is in progress, and at no other time.
- Never sold. We do not sell your information or share it with advertisers or marketing partners.

Information we collect
Account information
When you set up MediCall we collect the information you enter to link the app to a NetLayers account. This may include your business name, email address, phone number, account ID, and the credentials used to authenticate with the NetLayers voice service.
Technical data
To keep the service reliable we may collect technical information such as the app version, operating system version, device type, IP address, network connection status, and basic call-quality metrics. This is used for diagnostics and service quality only.
Support information
If you contact NetLayers support we may collect your contact details, account and service information, a description of your issue, and any troubleshooting notes needed to help you.
Permissions the app uses
MediCall requests only the permissions it needs to place and receive calls. Which ones apply depends on the device you are using.
All platforms
- Microphone: required to send your voice during a call. The microphone is active only while a call is in progress.
- Internet and local network: required so the app can reach, and carry calls over, the NetLayers voice network.
iPhone and Android only
- Notifications: used to alert you to incoming calls and messages. Delivering an alert to your phone relies on Apple’s and Google’s push notification services; only what is needed to raise the alert passes through them, never the contents of your calls.
- Contacts: optional. If you turn on Use Phone Contacts in the app’s settings, MediCall reads your contact list on the device so you can call people by name. Your contacts are read on the device only. They are not uploaded, transmitted to any server, or shared with anyone.
What stays on your device
MediCall keeps your working data on your own device rather than in the cloud, in the app’s own private storage area where other apps cannot reach it. Saved passwords are encrypted.
What the app keeps locally:
- Account settings and credentials used to connect to the NetLayers voice network, with passwords stored encrypted
- Call history: numbers, direction, time and duration
- Your phone book, as you enter it in the app
- Preferences such as theme, wallpaper, ringtone and audio device
- Call recordings you have made, as audio files
You can clear this information from inside the app at any time, and uninstalling MediCall removes it from your device.
For troubleshooting, MediCall also keeps a local diagnostic log of its calling activity, recording details such as the numbers involved and connection times. It remains on your device, is never transmitted to us automatically, and you may delete it at any time. We will only ever see it if you choose to send it to support.
Call recordings
If you record a call using the app’s built-in recorder, the audio file is stored on your device only. NetLayers does not upload, store, or have any access to your call recordings. You can play back and delete recordings from within the app at any time, and uninstalling MediCall removes all locally stored recordings.
You are responsible for using the recording feature lawfully. Recording a call without the knowledge or consent of the other party is restricted or prohibited in many places, and the requirements differ by province, state and country. Please make sure you understand and follow the rules that apply where you and the other party are located.
Staying reachable for calls
Windows
So the app can receive calls without being opened first, MediCall starts when you sign in to Windows and runs quietly in the notification area. You can turn this off at any time in Task Manager › Startup apps or Settings › Apps › Startup. Your choice there always takes precedence, and once you turn it off the app cannot turn it back on.
iPhone and Android
On phones, incoming calls reach you through the notification services described in Section 2 rather than by keeping the app running in the background. You can turn notifications off for MediCall in your phone’s settings, but incoming calls will not alert you while they are disabled.
How we use information
- To provide and operate the MediCall service
- To authenticate you with the NetLayers voice network
- To deliver incoming calls to your device
- To diagnose performance issues and improve call quality
- To respond to your support requests
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or marketing partners. We share limited information only when it is:
- Required by law, court order, or lawful government request
- Necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of NetLayers, our customers, or others
- Processed on our behalf by service providers, such as cloud infrastructure providers, under written confidentiality obligations
Data retention
We retain account information for as long as your NetLayers account is active, or as long as needed to provide the service. Technical and diagnostic data is kept only as long as needed for the purposes described above. Anything stored on your device (call history, phone book, recordings and logs) stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of the personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw consent for optional processing. You can clear your call history, phone book and recordings from inside the app at any time, and remove all local data by uninstalling it. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@netlayers.ca.
Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of saved credentials at rest on your device. No method of electronic transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work continuously to protect your data.
Children’s privacy
MediCall is a business communication tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
International users
MediCall is operated from Canada. By using the app you understand that your information may be processed in Canada, or in other countries where NetLayers or its service providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by other reasonable means. Continuing to use MediCall after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
